The Pencil's Story

The Pencil's Story
Listen to this post

Before sending a freshly made pencil out into the world, an old pencil maker held it in his hands and spoke gently to it, as if to a beloved son. He wanted the pencil to remember five important lessons about life.

He said, "You can do many great things if you put yourself in someone else's hands. Along the way, you'll experience painful sharpening — but that will make you a better pencil. You'll have the ability to correct your mistakes. The most important part of you is what's within, not what others see on the outside. And wherever you go, you must leave your mark. No matter what happens, keep writing."

Five Lessons from the Pencil

  1. Put yourself in someone else's hands.
  2. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.
  3. Learn from your mistakes.
  4. Value your inner character above all else.
  5. Leave a lasting, positive mark on the world.

Like that pencil, we are being shaped for purpose. Each trial sharpens us. Each correction refines us. And each act of kindness etches our story on the hearts of others.

"We are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
— Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
