Bookends

The Library of Life
Imagine a cozy library—a place where stories breathe, and wisdom rests on wooden shelves. The sun slants through the window, casting warm rectangles on the floor. And there, amidst the books, stand the unsung heroes—the bookends. Their job? To keep the stories upright, pages aligned, and adventures ready for curious souls.

Our Daily Bookends
We’re not just readers; we’re authors of our own tales. Our days—those dog-eared pages—need structure. Let’s peek at our bookends:

  1. Morning Bookend
o Dawn tiptoes in, and we wake to a fresh chapter.
    o Writing—scribbling our thoughts on life’s margins.
    o Reading—devouring wisdom like a hungry reader.
o Prayer—whispering secrets to the Universe.
    o Exercise—stretching our plotlines.
  2. Evening Bookend
o Twilight settles, and we close the day’s narrative.
o Reading—reflecting on plot twists and character arcs.
o Writing—journaling gratitude and lessons learned.
o Family time—dialogues that bind us.
    o Stretching—unfurling after a day well-lived.

The Ripple Effect
But wait—the bookends stretch beyond days. They frame our nights, too. Proper sleep—our nightly reboot—sets the stage for tomorrow’s sequel. And fantastic days weave into fantastic weeks, knitting the fabric of purposeful living.

A Darren Hardy Life Keynote
Darren Hardy, a backstage magician, shares his playbook. His morning overture: coffee and focused work. Three hours of deliberate composition. His evening encore: exercise and family laughter. A standing ovation for a life well-scripted.

The Ultimate Bookend
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24, ESV)

In these ancient lines, we find our ultimate bookend—the Alpha and Omega. The One who starts and ends our days. When we sync our rhythm with His, our stories harmonize. We don’t merely survive; we dance through chapters.

Adjusting the Supports
As ink dries on this parchment, I ask: Do your bookends support the life you want to lead? If so, celebrate! If not, tweak them. Perhaps a morning jig or an evening waltz awaits. The library of your life beckons. Stand tall, bookend by bookend.

The Pace Guy

Introduction: The Unspoken Connection

As adult professionals, we navigate life’s highways, each lane representing a unique journey. Sometimes, we find ourselves in the fast lane, pushing boundaries and accelerating toward our goals. Other times, we coast in the slow lane, perhaps hesitant or weary. But there’s an unspoken connection—a pace guy—who subtly influences our speed and direction.

The Gym Encounter: Becoming a Pace Guy

This morning, as I drove home from the gym, I unintentionally became someone’s pace guy. In the adjacent lane, a driver initially cruised at a leisurely pace. He hadn’t considered speeding up until he noticed my car darting ahead. Suddenly, he wasn’t content with his original speed. He wanted to match my pace, maybe even surpass it.

The Sports Analogy: Running with Purpose

In sports, pace guys are crucial. Imagine a marathon runner—a seasoned athlete who sets the rhythm for the pack. Others tuck in behind, using the pace to conserve energy and stay on track. The pace guy isn’t necessarily the fastest, but they maintain a steady tempo, ensuring everyone stays focused and motivated.

Life’s Lanes: Finding Our Pace

  1. The Slow Lane:
    • Sometimes, we need to cruise. It’s okay to take life at a leisurely pace—to savor moments, reflect, and recharge.
    • But beware of complacency. The slow lane can become a comfort zone, hindering growth.
  2. The Fast Lane:
    • Here, ambition drives us. We sprint toward dreams, fueled by determination.
    • Yet, speed without purpose leads to burnout. We risk missing life’s scenic views.
  3. The Pace Guy:
    • Like the marathon runner, we need a pace guy—an internal compass.
    • They remind us to push when we lag and slow down when we sprint too hard.

Scripture Verse: Isaiah 40:31 (New International Version)

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

In this verse, we find our ultimate pace guy—the Lord. When we align our pace with His purpose, we find balance. We soar, run, and walk—each step intentional, guided by faith.

Conclusion: Embrace Your Pace

Whether in the slow lane, fast lane, or somewhere in between, recognize the pace guy beside you. Be aware of the rhythms that shape your journey. And remember, it’s not just about speed; it’s about purposeful progress.

In Between

World’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, training

I don’t know about you, but I don’t like waiting. Yet in between the revelation and realization of my dream is the process of actualization.

As professionals, we often find ourselves in a world that demands speed and efficiency. We’re accustomed to acting swiftly, fueled by the adrenaline of competition and the satisfaction of accomplishment. Like a sprinter on the track, which I was in High School, we’re wired to give our best in bursts of energy, achieving our goals with focused determination.

Yet, during our fast-paced lives, we encounter moments of waiting—moments that challenge our patience and test our resolve. We may wonder why progress seems delayed, why success feels elusive. It’s in these moments that we must remember that God’s timing is not our own. At times this can be daunting, but he has a masterplan.

Just as a sprinter’s performance reflects their training regimen, our journey from start to finish is a testament to the work that God is doing within us. In waiting, He is molding our minds, refining our characters, and strengthening our faith. His masterplan includes a purpose for every moment of delay, and every season of anticipation.

In the book of Isaiah, we find reassurance in the words:

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint

Isaiah 40:31, King James Version

So, let us embrace the wait as a time of preparation and growth. Let us trust in God’s perfect timing, knowing that His plans for us are greater than we can imagine. And as we journey from start to finish, may we continue to build spiritual muscle, ready to soar on wings of expansion when the moment of victory arrives.

The Millionaire Mindset

Congratulations on embarking on the exciting journey of entrepreneurship! As you dive into this world, remember that success isn’t just about luck; it’s about cultivating the right mindset. Here are three essential traits that can lead you to millionaire status: commitment, consistency, and courage. These are three of my watchwords and I strive to live them, daily.

Commitment is about wholeheartedly dedicating yourself to your goals, even when faced with obstacles. It’s about staying the course, no matter the challenges. Think of Sara Blakely, who faced rejection after rejection but remained committed to her vision of Spanx, building it into a billion-dollar empire.

Consistency is the habit of showing up every day, putting in the work, and taking small steps toward your goals. It’s about reliability and persistence. Consider Daymond John’s relentless work ethic and dedication to building FUBU into a global fashion brand, leveraging grassroots marketing tactics and building relationships within the hip-hop community.

Courage is the willingness to take risks and push through fear and failure. It’s about stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing uncertainty. Look at Elon Musk and SpaceX, who dared to dream big, revolutionizing space exploration despite numerous setbacks.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go

Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

So, as you navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, remember these principles. Stay committed to your vision, maintain consistency in your actions, and have the courage to persevere. With these traits, you too can pave the way to millionaire success. Wishing you all the best on your entrepreneurial journey!
