One morning while in one my thought factories, my bathroom, something interesting became clear to me. Our bodies reflect our way of life.
Earlier that morning I went to the gym and noticed some of the regulars. Some had good muscle tone and looked fit. But others weren’t as toned. I like going to the gym most times instead of working out alone because of the energy there. Many times, I exercise longer or harder than intended because I gain inspiration, when I need it, from other members exercising. But sometimes when I return home, I could feel my mind drifting back into a lack-luster state, the state I was in before I went to the gym. I decided I was going to be strong as a way of life.
The critical thing is, I needed to practice being strong when I was not at the gym, like at home, at work, on the road, at the mall, to name a few.
Like me you have opportunity areas where you desire to be stronger. Practice being strong regularly until you adopt it as a way of life. Here are some examples… At home, practice going to bed the same time even on weekends or drink more water. At work remain composed when a customer is upset, or an internal partner is pushing your buttons. At the mall, still smile when someone bumps into you or refuse to respond to a rude comment in like manner. On the road, remain unnerved if someone cuts you off, or let in the contrary driver even if he or she is trying to skip the line.
Being strong is a mindset. The more you practice the more likely it is to become more natural and the more likely you are to see results like a fitter body and even a tougher mind. Surely, you will slip at times but be resilient. Recover and press on. Do not be afraid.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
