Gemini

For I do not understand what I am doing; for I am not practicing what I want to do, but I do the very thing I hate. Romans 7:15 (NASB)

People with the sign Gemini, born around 21 May to 21 June, are said to represent two different personalities together and you are unlikely to know which one you will run into. One twin could be good but the other, bad. I wish to submit that we all have a Gemini in us. Paul in Romans said he found himself doing just the thing he does not want to do, and we all struggle to bring ourselves into subjection. Why?

We have a challenge to police ourselves when we do not effectively manage our minds. Paul also in Romans said that to be transformed we must renew our minds (Romans 12:2). Merriam-Webster defines renew as to “make like new” or to “restore to freshness, vigor, or perfection.” It follows that if we do not renew our minds we would regress into the old – the old mistake, the old habit, the old sin.

To renew our minds, we must be careful to nourish it with what is healthy. Sure, we can use positive affirmations and incantations. In addition, we can derive a lot of healthy nuggets from the bible. Yet it is not enough to use them occasionally. We need to use them daily. We should think on anything that is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). In this way we would be more likely to avoid the evil Gemini twin by doing less of what we do not want to do and more of what we want to do and should be doing.
